Here we have an eye-catching knit sweater from Junya Watanabe MAN’s AD2004 collection. For this piece, Junya Watanabe referenced the Cowichan knitting tradition which is popular amongst the Cowichan people of southeastern Vancouver Island, British Columbia and is commonly identified by the garment’s distinct patterns. This piece features multiple beaver motifs, as well as northern red oak leaves symmetrically knitted into the garment to boast the Cowichan knit aesthetic. This is yet another example of an over-the-top design that helped solidify Junya Watanabe as one of the great Japanese designers.
