Number (N)ine Giovanni Estevez Knights Tee – AW00

Giovanni Estevez, better known as Gio, is an artist, graphic designer, and illustrator who was born and raised in New York City. His name is synonymous with Supreme, and rightfully so. Gio became the clothing brand's first employer after founder James Jebia opened his New York store in April 1994 and was part of the original Supreme skate team. Known for his sketch-like illustrations, Giovanni Estevez worked as a freelance artist for companies such as Supreme, Burton Snowboards, Analog, and of course, Number (N)ine. Gio first caught the eye of Takahiro Miyashita thanks to the unique graphics Estevez implemented into his own clothing label ANX, which was founded in 1999 and was exclusively sold in select boutiques around the United States, Europe, and Japan. Miyashita and Estevez first collaborated for Number (N)ine’s Autumn/Winter 2000 “The Redisun” collection releasing a series of garments that boast various Giovanni Estevez illustrations of ‘Knights’. After the success of their first collaboration, Miyashita would continue to recruit Gio for later collections such as SS01, AW08 & SS08.

Here we have an eye-catching tee from Number (N)ine’s AW00 “The Redisun” collection. This piece displays every Giovanni Estevez Knight illustration used for Number (N)ine’s AW00 collection – These illustrations are seen on various pieces from Number (N)ine’s Spring/Summer 2001 “Time Migration” collection as well. This piece also features branding on the left sleeve and the iconic ‘Bullseye’ tag which was only used for garments produced in 2000. This tee is yet another timeless piece by Number (N)ine from a somewhat unorthodox collaboration between two brilliant creatives.
