Number (N)ine x Charles Peterson Kurt Cobain Tee – AW09

Number (N)ine’s “Touch Me I’m Sick” collection showcased the grunge and punk aesthetic, taking inspiration from the Seattle 90’s punk rock era as well as referencing Takahiro Miyashita’s physical health state which halted him designing for two collections during the early 2000s. For Number (N)ine’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, Miyashita worked with photographer Charles Peterson to produce an array of garments bearing images from the early days of grunge. Drawing from Peterson’s book ‘Touch Me I’m Sick’, Miyashita printed fabric with photos of mosh pits, crowd-surfing, and imagery of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain. This capsule collection pays homage to Takahiro Miyashita’s deep roots with punk rock and the grunge aesthetic. A depleting physical and mental state would push the young creative to involuntary resign from the rapidly growing brand, marking AW09 as the official end of the Takahiro Miyashita era of Number (N)ine.

Here we have a t-shirt from Number (N)ine’s capsule collection with Charles Peterson. This garment features a faded graphic of Kurt Cobain collapsed over a drum set during the 90’s show at Raji’s Nightclub in California. The iconic photograph is referenced on the back of the garment, reading “Charles Peterson Touch Me I’m Sick”. These tee’s and the collection altogether are a true representation of Miyashita’s ideology behind the brand – A quintessential staple within the Number (N)ine Universe.
